Nkwali “as Nomathamsanqa Mkwananzi is affectionately known in arts and music circles was born on the 20th of November 1982. Born to a family of two she would grow up to defy and break a lot of success boundaries with her amazing voice. From a tender age Nkwali sang in church and was devoted to music. As fortune and talent would determine at the age of 7 she landed a role as an extra in the movie Power of One acting alongside international stars that included Morgan Freeman and Zimbabwean superstar Alois Moyo.

From that time Nkwali never looked back. Music was to become her destiny. She joined Mpopoma high School drama club under the tutelage of arts director Nkululeko Innocent Dube and became a founder member of one of Zimbabwe’s best and international theatre, music and dance exports INKULULEKO YABATSHA SCHOOL OF ARTS (IYASA).

Nkwali is a versatile artiste who combines a unique cocktail of talents. She has won many an award and has also toured the world with IYASA and other productions. The countries whose stages Noma has shined on include Austria, Australia, Czech Republic, Philippines, Zambia, Swaziland, SouthAfrica,Turkey, Germany, Slovakia, Liechtenstein, Singapore, Swaziland, Russia, Spain, Italy to name but a few. She has also worked with Zimbabwean poet Albert Nyathi and Imbongi and was main character in Sihlangu Dlodlo’s well received play PENPALS.

Nkwali’s voice is her greatest strength as she boasts of a powerful velvet, soulful voice that has landed her a role of lead singer in the international African Circus Mother Africa. Nkwali’s voice is individual and not easy to compare with any other and her stage presence always mesmerizes audiences. Her biography continues to flourish and having performed at world class festivals like WOMAD, Jhrada Fesival, Fringe Fesival, Kasumama, Africa Oye, Africa Fest, Intwasa, HIFA among others she continues to create a history for herself that will not be equaled to any other.
