Christine Kamau is a Trumpeter, performing/recording artist in the Kenyan music scene. She grew up in Nakuru, Kenya and began study music theory and classical piano at age 11. She followed on with learning the Trumpet.
Christine released an 8-track instrumental afro-jazz album in 2012 titled This is for You worked on with Cameroonian music producer Romeo Kouemeni. The album offers an easy listening experience, the music being a fusion of jazz with African music elements of benga and rhumba.
Christine has performed at various music events in including the monthly festival Blankets and Wine, Jazz under the Stars, Sierra Jazz Festival 2012 (opening of the UK acid-jazz group Incognito), The Safaricom International Jazz festival 2014 (rising stars edition), Jazz with Isaiah Katumwa (Sheraton Kampala) amongst others. She has been featured in a musical program by the BBC world service titled ‘Africa Beats’ a series that showcases emerging music talent from Africa.
She currently performs regularly in the Nairobi music scene alongside Ghanaian guitarist Koomla Young and Charles Obuya (Percussions).
Christine is also the founder and host of the Women in Music Forum/Women in Music Concert Series, a forum that seeks to facilitate interaction between women professions in the Kenyan music industry with an aim to creating business opportunities, a performance platform for artistes and facilitating mentorship for younger musicians.
